Past Meetings 2020-2021

 September:

Sunday, September 27, 2020: 1:00 pm-4:00 pm

Presenter:

Dr. Marianne Johnson

Title:   Chart Patterns and Final Dispositors will

A useful first step in chart interpretation is to look at the gestalt or pattern formed by the planets in the zodiac.  We will learn the six main chart patterns (bundle, bowl, bucket, see-saw, locomotive and splash) and what each pattern suggests about the personality, conscious and unconscious.

A useful later step in chart interpretation is to determine whether the chart has a “bottom line” signified by a planet that is a final dispositor.  This planet is in its sign of rulership and disposes all the other planets.  If time permits variations, such as a chart disposited by two planets in mutual reception, will also be discussed.

Recommended:  Please bring your birth charts!  People with a bundle (planets within 120 degrees), bowl (planets within 180 degrees) or bucket (all but one planet within 180 degrees) chart shapes willing to have their chart used for demonstration will be greatly appreciated.

Dr. Marianne Johnson is a psychologist in private practice.  She has long-standing interests in Jungian psychology (including training at the Jung Institute in Kusnacht, Switzerland) and in astrology.  Formative influences on her approach to astrology are Jeffrey Wolfe Green’s Evolutionary Astrology and Tibetan Buddhism reincarnation.

TOPIC:

YOUR TRUE “MERCURIAL” NATURE:  Are you a Mercury morning or evening star?*

In this workshop, we will look more closely at one of our personal planets, Mercury.  We will discuss the archetypal energies represented by it and add another layer to our understanding of our “Mercurial” nature by looking at its cyclical relationship to the Sun.

Most of us are aware of how the “flavour” of this personal planet changes with each zodiac sign, but did you know its expression further changes depending on where in its cycle with the Sun it was located at the time of your birth?

Bring your natal chart and be prepared for a more intimate understanding of the workings of your mind.

TOPIC:

MBTI and Astrology: Friends or Foes?

Exploring the need to relate different systems together.

In a quest for understanding ourselves and others, there are many avenues we can take.  MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) is a tool used by many as one of these paths.  There is a tendency to want to connect systems such as MBTI to astrology, that somehow if all the different self-awareness tools fit together, it makes them more valid.  The danger in trying to connect them is a misunderstanding of what the techniques bring to our awareness.
In this workshop, we will explore MBTI and the four elements as a way to connect with the patterns in your life. To get the most out of this session you will need to know your MBTI type and have your natal chart as well.
If you don’t know your MBTI type you can use this free assessment:
Also if you would like to volunteer your MBTI type and the elements of the 10 planets of your charts as part of the discussion, please send that information to Shelly at:

May:

Sunday, May 16, 2021, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm

TOPIC:  Electing your Dance with Life through the Lunar Rhythm

A recent scientific study, “Moonstruck sleep”, reported an association between sleep patterns and lunar phases, indicating how we may be susceptible to lunar phases. In this workshop, we will get to know the void of course (VOC) moon, and bring it into consideration as a starting point of electional astrology. We will also consider recent and future new moon positions in the houses for the area of heightened sensitivity in our lives. Lastly, we will discuss suggested applications of lunar phases for intention-setting, finance, and planting. The VOC moon period, as well as new moons in Winnipeg CST time, can be found on Julie’s website: https://venuranian.com/moon-planner/ Feel free to explore the periods before the May workshop for discussion.

The Richness of Lunar Phases

In this workshop, we’ll take a look at the 8 lunar phases and how they impact the energetics of the natal chart. You’ll see how the natal lunar phase affects the flavor of the whole chart and is a key component to personality, potentially shifting the thrust of the Sun and Moon signs involved and their dynamic manifestation. We will also talk about the lessons of each phase, and how they impact the direction of life path. We will also dive into progressed moon phases and learn how to work with them. We’ll work with each other’s charts in an experiential manner to be able to put these ideas into practice. Dr. Marianne Johnson

Title:    Jung, Astrology and Archetypes

Astrology was very important—personally and professionally—to Dr. Carl Jung, and Jungian psychology has been and is very important to astrology.  Dr. Jung, with a Leo Sun and a Taurus Moon, was a Swiss psychiatrist known for his work on dreams, archetypes, individuation, and synchronicity.  This workshop will be in two parts:  a brief introduction to Jung’s work and key terms, and how he used astrology in his personal life and professional practice, followed by a consideration of zodiac signs as archetypal patterns, and Sun and Moon as psychological functions.

October:

Sunday, October 28, 2018, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm

Presenter:

Shannon Rae

Title: Chiron: Weaving & Healing

Often expressed and misrepresented simply as the wound, we will explore how Chiron can be used alchemically to heal and be healed by others. Chiron orbits between the ultimate bastion of reality (Saturn) and the wild maverick who breaks free from traditional constraints (Uranus), between the visible and invisible, the inner and the outer.

In your natal birth chart Chiron’s position and aspects can point to how you grow through the deep integration of these ideas as you travel along the spiral towards wholeness.

Presenter:

Malcolm Wall

Title: Juno as an Indicator of Partnership

What type of person are you going to marry? What type of person did you marry? Our look at the asteroid Juno will provide some compelling clues to these questions. Juno in the horoscope gives a good indication of the kind of marriage partner that we need and will get. Not the partner we think we want (those are ruled by Venus and Mars), or the type we are generally attracted to (seventh house cusp) but the one we need and actually wind up with.

Juno in the natal chart, by sign, house and aspect, shows the nature of the partner you seek. It is reflected in what you seek to balance of your own nature in other areas of life. It’s not so much “You complete me” as it is “You bring out the issues in me that I must address in order to feel whole.”

Presenter:

Sharon Wiseman

Title:

Preparing For a Consultation

Using chart examples, Sharon will show how she prepares for an Astrology session using the techniques she learned from her course with Noel Tyl, a well known Astrologer and author. She will demonstrate how she zeros in on the important natal themes and combines that with the themes of the current transits and solar arcs. From this a dialog begins with the client which cuts through to what is relevant now. This approach is powerful for both client and astrologer.

Bio:

Sharon was one of the original members of the Manitoba Association of Astrologers. She has been a professional astrologer for over 30 years in addition to a social work career. She has taught Astrology and given many workshops over the years.

She and her husband retired to the Yukon in 2009 where they moved into a cabin on the Takhini River outside of Whitehorse. In addition to Astrology, she spends her time hiking and canoeing, reading mysteries and making jewellery for the local Farmers Market.

While in the Yukon she completed Noel Tyl’s Masters Level Astrology Course with highest honours. She consults with clients by phone and once a year in person in Winnipeg.
